[ laughter ] [ male announcer ] earn points with the citi thankyou card and redeem them for just about anything. visit to apply. >> and we begin with developing news. this is the man police want to find and find fast. tonight joel kaufman, a bay area high school baseball coach is wanted for child molestation. good evening. i'm dan ashley. carolyn johnson has the night off. police say kaufman sexually abused one child and videotaped another. and they say he tried to kill
himself when he was first arrested last summer. now she facing charges and no where to be found. thomas roman is live in san >> dan, they are still searching for him. kaufman allegedly molested one of those children last year, but he wasn't charged pending further investigation. now the investigation ended and the contra costa county district attorney's office charged him with three felony and three misdemeanor counts involving the two boys. they also issued a warrant for his arrest. 52-year-old joel kaufman is seen here with a traveling high school club that often plays college teams. kaufman coached two bay area high school baseball teams in the past. he owns triple play batting cages in san leandro. police investigators came in looking for kaufman who is wanted on a $300,000 arrest warrant. parents we spoke to were stunned that the owner of this business is wanted by police. >> it is surprising.
you hear it all the time with teachers and with people and physicians with responsibility and authority. it is awful. >> tim hamilton has come here for years, but he never met kaufman. >> hearing smk like this is shocking. it is absolutely unacceptable. i hope the charges are not true. >> he was charged with three felony and two misdemeanor counts of molesting a boy between september of 2005 and june 2012. she charged with another misdemeanor for videotaping another child while the boy was in the bath roo. he was arrested for the first alleged molestations after parents complained and was not charged. days later he attempted suicide according to police. they say they searched in san leandro, but he is no where to be under to. we went to his home which was shut up tight. neighbors say they don't though the man. kaufman keeps to himself.
>> he drives down the street and never turns his head. >> police have not said there are other victims that are asking anyone with information to give them a call. they are also asking kaufman to turn himself in. in san leandro, thomas roman, abc news. >> thanks very much. all is quiet once again in a vallejo neighborhood after a terrifying afternoon. a man with a gun took over the street. sky 7hd was moving into a home at sutter and indiana streets. alan wang on what happened next. >> by the time vallejo s.w.a.t peeled away the lattice work, the man they were trying to stop was already lying in the house dead. police won't say how he died, but only that he fired on them early in the day.
around 11:30, neighbors heard police calling out to a man. >> they started coming in closer like if you come out with your hands up we won't hurt you. and then like two seconds later they are like evacuate next door. we all drop to the ground. >> neighbors describe him as a troubled man who came armed with a shotgun money. the man who owned the house cared for him in the past. when they weren't home the man came run together house. >> he came with a firearm and the officers fired on him. he retreated back into the residence. >> reporter: while the entire block was being evacuated police began negotiating. >> we spoke to him and he made threats to shoot and kill officers and shoot and kill other people. >> reporter: then around 1:00 police say the man poked a shotgun out the window and fired at them. several officers answered with a barrage of bullets.
police bullet casings littered the ground out here, and now more than 10 hours after it all started there is still a crime scene and police still are not saying exactly how the man died. reporting in vallejo, alan wang, abc7 news. a jury found a man guilty for killing a man here for a job interview at google. george huggins faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. prosecutors say huggins shot and killed a man in oakland during a series of robberies. he lived in virginia and was here for the google interview. he had gone to downtown oakland to have his teeth cleaned at a friend's office. he had $10 on him when he was robbed. new tonight at 11:00, police have taken an arsonal of weapons away from police. they provided these pictures of the weapons thisy seized. they include seven assault rifles and 10 handguns and more than 5,000 rounds of ammunition. east palo alto and menlo park

saying he had broken windows on the trailer with the antler. he surrendered after spending an hour in the trailer. he is charged with assault with a deadly weapon. that was a deer's antler. new at 11:00, the oakland unified school district decided to revoke the charter of the indian model schools. the district says the school has failed to address numerous violations that prompted an initial investigation into 2011. the founder is accused of improperly using millions of dollars in school funds. the board recommends that the charter be revoked effective june 30th. a folk singer responded to the fallout from anti-gay comments she made during a performance in san francisco. in a statement the singer said, quote, i do not nor have i ever said or believed that god hates homosexuals. and to those fans who are disappointed by what they have heard or think i said, i am very sorry. half the audience walked out
during an anti-gay slur at yoshi's. the singer said it was meant as a description as to how some people feel. many of her shows across the country have now been canceled as a result. new details about the scholarship fund established in honor of two police officers killed in the line of duty. as of today argen butch baker and elizabeth butler family fund has raised $308,000. the two officers were killed trying to arrest a man last month. the man was later killed by s.w.a.t officers of -- officers. if you would like to make a donation go to our website and click on see it on tv. it is a way to honor those officers and help their families. new at 11:00, some big changes could be coming to yosemite national park. it is part of an environmental effort. the plan is to protect the iconic landscape. if approved it would ban bike

could jump start the whole enforcement process. in the meantime if you want to know the status of your house or apartment go to and click on see it on tv. reporting live in berkeley, leslie brinkly, abc7 news. >> thanks very much. we are just getting developing news in. a car has hit two pedestrians in a foggy area of san francisco. they were in the crosswalk of interception of west portal avenue and vicenti street. the victims are a man and woman. and fire dispatch says one has been critically hurt. the driver stayed at the scene and is not facing any criminal charges at this time. a single mother in washington, d.c. was fired without warning after selling girl scout cookies on the job. tracy lewis ran a food court and began selling cookies three years ago for her 12-year-old daughter. she says her boss has never objected until this year. that's when her employer fired her for violating the company
policy. well, an amazing sight in southern chili. thousands of dead shrimp car meting the shore, again in chile. and they dumped residue into the ocean and contaminated the water. no word or response from officials at the plant. hundreds of dead crabs washed up in the same area. police are collecting evidence and there is a lot of that. several prominent californians joined the hall of fame. >> the state proudly recognizes joe montana. >> joe montana headlined this year's induckies. he lead them to four super bowl titles. they also welcomed warren -- hollywood giant warren beatty and the co-founder dolores

watch out for foggy areas in the morning 6789 -- morning. mild inland and cool at the coast. it is the first full weekend of spring. the satellite radar is showing the cold front that was responsible for our drizzle. we had scattered showers earlier today, but it is long gone and now we are going to have to contend with low clouds and fog overnight tonight. front moves out and the high pressure builds behind it. this is the time of year when you see winds getting gusty. here is a look at a computer animation indicating what the winds will be doing. these are wind gusts. 10:00 a.m., 31 mile an hour wind out of the north. as we head into the early afternoon the wind will start to pick up, 38 miles an hour there. and by 5:00 in the afternoon, could be seeing 40 mile an hour wind gusts. 29 in half moon bay. hang on tight and make sure you secure loose objects. it will be windy near the coast.
